The focus will be on the automated conversion of technical documentations of Aircraft to an XR application exploiting a huge Aircraft digital mock-up and massive existing technical pdf manuals.

Process Summary

The process will be performed by instructors with expertise in the field, but no computer skills. They will import the digital mock-up and technical documentation, create interactive parts, and author procedures using the MOTIVATE XR tool suite. The process will be evaluated on various XR devices and compared to current state-of-the-art methods used by the aeronautics industry. The pilot will take place on CS secured campus, ensuring access control and protection of sensitive data. The final evaluation will produce a public demonstration showcasing the added value of the proposed tools.

Aerospace Valley will organise the whole pilot and its evaluation in collaboration with the Aerocampus Aquitaine, a leading aviation training campus for aircraft training maintenance. CS, Airbus’s main provider of virtual maintenance trainers, will perform the authoring part of the pilot on their secured premises enhanced by new Sopra Steria AI-powered document conversion assistant.

Advantages For End User & Innovation Potential

  • Streamlining the production of XR maintenance training systems.
  • Reduction of errors when interpreting the documentation and modelling the procedures.
  • Reduction of the time and costs to produce an XR maintenance training system.
  • Making training more attractive and enabling to address the lack of maintenance technicians.
  • Improving quality of training while reducing the necessity to immobilise real aircrafts.
  • Creation of new products (XR training systems) that can be sold to the airlines.
