Overview of Project Methodology
The MOTIVATE XR concept is to use the latest advances in No-Code authoring, interactive storytelling, generative AI, knowledge and story graphs, 3D videogrammetry scanning, XR smart headsets, and telepresence to develop a complete, end-to-end solution to streamline, significantly accelerate and make more cost-effective the creation, sharing, and consumption of multi-user XR experiences for the training and assistance for industrial applications.
This will be made possible through the co-creation of an integrated, standardised, cybersecure, and consistent tool suite specifically designed for creating, sharing, and consuming such experiences without the need for programming skills. The end-to-end value chain will be organised in a workflow made of three main phases:

Project Implementation Comprises 7 Work Packages (WP)
MOTIVATE XR will adopt a user-centred co-design methodology that will be usable by a wide range of users without programming skills, from the largest European industrials to handywomen / handymen, without requiring software development skills.
WP1: Project Management and Coordination
Oversees high-quality operational and technical management and coordination of project activities; self assessment of project performance, IPR and data management.
WP2: Impact Maximisation
Implements strategies for maximal up-scaling and outreach; raise awareness among target groups and tailored to project results to ensure their sustainable exploitation.
WP3: SSH and Industrial Frameworks & Co-design
Nurtures the proposed user-centric approach by defining the frameworks to consider during project duration and to design, develop and evaluate project results.
WP4: MOTIVATE XR Authoring Tools
Implement, document and test the technical tools dedicated to XR experience creation to the output of the framework designed in WP3.
WP5: MOTIVATE XR Experiencing Tools
Implement, document and test the technical tools enabling to experience the content produced by the authoring tools developed in WP4.
WP6: MOTIVATE XR Continuous Integration and Verification
Implement cloud-based back-end services that WP4 & WP5 exploited to share XR experiences and produce the seamless, integrated and verified iterative releases of MOTIVATE XR tools.
WP7: Training, Pilots and Evaluation
Prepare an innovative training curriculum exploiting the MOTIVATE XR tools and producing XR content to train users (authors and workers) in the project 5 pilot contexts.

Overview of Project Outcomes
MOTIVATE XR aims to boost European XR technology by developing a comprehensive toolset and fostering a collaborative ecosystem among European SMEs. The project will revolutionise training and support in various industries by providing high-quality XR simulations based on CAD models, promoting knowledge sharing, adoption, and sustainability. MOTIVATE XR will empower low-skilled workers with accessible, intuitive, and engaging training, enhancing productivity and success in a resilient industry.
Develop “XR made in Europe”, contributing to technological sovereignty
Contribute to develop virtual worlds European platforms
Support the use of XR technologies for a sustainable, human-centric and resilient European Industry
KSO D, creating a more resilient, inclusive and democratic European society
A human-centred and ethical development of digital and industrial technologies
Impact #1
Technological impacts:
▪ Enabling remote training and assistance to trainees, workers, and final customers.
▪ Enabling shared experiences involving multiple participants.
▪ Leveraging intuitive collaboration/interaction between workers and their environment through DT and XR, including with cobots.
Impact #2
Economic Impacts:
▪ Creating more attractive jobs and income opportunities, European industrial ecosystems can gain a competitive advantage over businesses in other regions.
▪ Enabling remote assistance can be particularly helpful for SMEs, which may not have the resources to provide extensive training and support to their employees.
▪ Enabling remote assistance and training will contribute to the reduction of travel costs.
▪ By promoting the development of alternative technologies and business collaborations, MOTIVATE XR can minimise our dependence on the US and China.
Impact #3
Scientific Impacts:
▪ Better understanding of complex designs, allowing researchers to explore, experiment and test prototypes in a controlled environment.
▪ Promoting interdisciplinary collaboration that enables researchers and scientists from different fields and locations to work together in more immersive and interactive ways.
Impact #1
Resilience of the Single Market:
MOTIVATE XR can improve the preservation and transmission of knowledge and competencies,
allowing skilled people to remain in less developed regions rather than migrating to other areas for
better opportunities. MOTIVATE XR can improve the employability of low-skilled people with better training and on-the-job assistance. Harmonisation of standards and increased interoperability for SMEs can be achieved by promoting collaboration between SMEs and supporting them with accessible resources and infrastructure.
Impact #2
Support Europe’s Open Strategic Autonomy:
Creative tools are strategic for a company, or a country, to influence culture, working methods, and orientate/limit creativity. Depending on US or Chinese tools to create and experience XR knowing the impact it can have on our industries can’t be an option for Europe without risking losing a big part of its autonomy. Enabling remote training and assistance for SMEs, enables local as well as European business to carry out industrial operation, repairs and maintenance themselves, reducing their dependence on external suppliers even if supply chains are interrupted.
Impact #3
Support the Business Case for the Twin Transitions:
MOTIVATE XR will provide an integrated solution enabling the creation of XR experiences that can interact with real systems and equipment through the use of a Digital Twin. By making it accessible to industries without extensive programming skills, MOTIVATE XR will clearly contribute to the democratisation of Digital Twins including for on-the-job integration with equipment and cobots.
Impact #4
Support to the Green Deal:
MOTIVATE XR contributes to the necessary need to reduce wastes and facilitate recycling. Decarbonisation and energy savings: remote assistance/training while reducing wastes and favouring sustainability and recycling by facilitating the repairability.
Impact #1
Increased inclusiveness supporting a human-centred approach to technology development aligned with European social and ethical values (including gender and intersectional aspects), as well as sustainability:
One of the strategic challenges addressed by MOTIVATE XR is to contribute to the effort to address the skills gap in the European industry by providing an engaging, effective and efficient solution for training and upskilling industrial workers. MOTIVATE XR aims to increase the adoption of XR technology for industrial training and assistance, which can ultimately lead to increased attractiveness, productivity and competitiveness for European industries. MOTIVATE XR also aims to have a positive impact on inclusiveness and sustainability. By promoting a human-centred approach to technology development, the tool suite is aligned with European social and ethical values, including gender and intersectional aspects. Moreover, the use of XR technology for training and assistance can reduce the carbon footprint by encouraging the recycling of products and reducing the need for travel and physical presence, promoting a more environmentally friendly approach to training and assistance in the industry.
Impact #2
Sustainable, high-quality jobs by targeting skills mismatches, the need to empower workers, including those at risk of social exclusion, and ethical considerations relating to technological progress:
The impact of MOTIVATE XR is significant in terms of creating sustainable, high-quality jobs in
Europe. The tool suite targets skills mismatches, empowering workers, including those at risk of social exclusion, and ethical considerations relating to technological progress. MOTIVATE XR enables workers to develop new skills and competencies required for the digital age, thereby bridging the skills gap in the European industrial sector. Additionally, by using XR experiences, workers can simulate complex scenarios, receive real-time feedback, and learn at their own pace, leading to better performance and increased job satisfaction.
