BeyondXR Cluster
The Future of XR Innovation
The BeyondXR Cluster is a collaboration of pioneering EU projects focused on using advanced technologies like Extended Reality (XR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and robotics to transform education and training.
Beyond simply reshaping learning, the cluster aims to apply these technologies across various industries – from manufacturing and media to creative and cultural sectors – to drive innovation and social change. By bringing these projects together, BeyondXR seeks to push the boundaries of how XR and AI are used to create a positive impact on society.

The Projects within the Cluster

CORTEX2
CORTEX2 aims to facilitate remote collaboration between workers through next-generation XR technology solutions across a wide range of industries and SMEs. To this end, it is developing an innovative XR platform to facilitate work and social activities involving physical interaction with the environment and remote objects — from industrial cooperation to technical training and business meetings.

SERMAS
SERMAS lays the foundations of next-generation XR systems, looking at how people relate and interact with the technology. Transform your eXtended Reality (XR) experience with SERMAS. Embrace social acceptance and discover our concepts, techniques, and tools that will help you discover the full potential of XR systems through coherent design, implementation, and deployment.

XR5.0
The XR5.0 project aims to build, demonstrate, and validate a novel Person-Centric and AI-based XR paradigm tailored to the requirements and nature of I5.0 applications.

XR2LEARN
XR2Learn aims to establish cross-border creation of human-centric XR applications in education. The project will deliver its one-stop shop platform, organised as a Digital Innovation Hub, for all actors involved in the XR-based educational applications supply chain, aimed at enhancing training in manufacturing and distance learning scenarios.

TRANSMIXR
TRANSMIXR aims to ignite the immersive media sector by enabling new narrative visions through the development and adoption of eXtended Reality (XR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. The project focuses on advancing social XR and AI technologies for application within media production, delivery, and consumption, targeting the creative and cultural sectors.

XR2INDUSTRY
XR2INDUSTRY focuses on developing fundamental blocks for a reference XR European platform, marking it as the first European data-aware XR headset. XR2INDUSTRY aims to the creation of a European reference platform aiming to develop and prototype advanced interoperable XR solutions to solve common challenges encountered by the industry (in areas such as assembly, maintenance, remote operation, training, design, logistics, etc.), placing the wellbeing of workers at the centre of the production process.

VOXReality
VOXReality is an initiative that aims to facilitate the convergence of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computer Vision (CV) technologies in the Extended Reality (XR) field. VOXReality’s goal is to conduct research and develop new AI models to drive future XR interactive experiences, and to deliver these models to the wider European market.

SPIRIT
Telepresence represents the next generation of communication applications that will significantly improve immersive experiences in both human-to-human and human-to-machine interactions by blurring the physical and virtual worlds. While this is already influencing how we work, it will have an even greater impact in the future, contributing to increased resilience to environmental disruptions, industry productivity, and energy efficiency. Due to their complexity, cost, data compression, and bandwidth requirements, these solutions have not been scaled yet. SPIRIT, which is funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme, researches, develops, and demonstrates low-latency and scalable solutions that will ultimately bring real-time immersive telepresence into practice.

HECOF
The HECOF project aims to revolutionize teaching in higher education through AI-driven, personalized, adaptive learning. Focused on Chemical Engineering, it leverages digital data to enhance student assessment and learning methods. HECOF fosters ethical AI development and supports education sector reform, aligning with the Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027). It seeks to impact both academic and vocational training by promoting innovative digital teaching practices.

MASTER
The MASTER project enhances robotics training in manufacturing with its innovative open XR platform. By integrating key functionalities, MASTER creates safe, flexible robotic environments with advanced interaction mechanisms.

augMENTOR
augMENTOR aims to revolutionise education by integrating emerging technologies into a pedagogical framework focused on developing both basic and 21st-century skills. Using an AI-boosted toolkit, the project will leverage machine learning algorithms to provide personalized learning pathways tailored to individual learners’ characteristics and preferences.

OPENVERSE
The vision of the OPENVERSE project is to create inclusive, open, and ethically responsible European Virtual Worlds, enhancing the European Union’s technological sovereignty in the global arena. Its strategy involves integrating diverse technological expertise, fostering collaborative innovation, and ensuring interoperability, privacy, and security in digital environments. OPENVERSE aims to lay the foundational framework for these Virtual Worlds, combining user co-creation with extended reality technologies, addressing legal and ethical challenges, and guiding future policy and industry standards for globally influential Virtual Worlds.
