After months of intensive development, we have delivered a web-based, production-ready platform that brings together cutting-edge XR technology with industrial training needs. The MOTIVATE XR platform is a comprehensive environment that supports the entire XR content lifecycle, from initial creation to deployment on headsets. Key Platform features include:
- User Management: Our platform implements multi-tenant security with role-based access control. Whether you’re an administrator managing projects, an editor creating content, or a viewer exploring training scenarios, the system adapts to your permissions. We have addressed one of XR’s most inconvenient limitations regarding user management: logging in with a headset on. Our QR-code authentication eliminates the need for typing passwords in virtual environments.
- File Organisation: The three-tier storage system (public, private, and organisation buckets) gives teams the flexibility they need, maintaining security and avoiding duplicate data. Permissions flow seamlessly from your user’s role through to the files you can access.
- Integrated XR Authoring: The platform integrates with multiple authoring tools, each optimised for different immersion levels:
Projects automatically adapt based on whether you are creating VR, AR, or MR content, with the right tools appearing when you need them.
- AI-Powered Processing Services: Two advanced services enhance content creation:
- Video-to-3D Conversion: Upload training videos and automatically generate textured 3D models using videogrammetric processing. Support multiple output formats (PLY, OBJ, FBX, GLB meshes, and LAS point clouds) with configurable quality settings. This tool drastically reduces production and asset generation barriers in 3D modelling faced by stakeholders in adopting an interactive 3D/XR training approach.
- Semantic Processing Engine: Transform PDF technical manuals and training documentation into intelligent conversational agents. Trainees can ask natural language questions and get instant, context-aware answers from your documentation. The processing engine can also support semi-automated XR content authoring flows within the authoring tools.
Built for Real-World Industrial Use
The platform runs on a modern, containerised microservices architecture deployed on Kubernetes infrastructure with GPU support for AI processing. Our continuous integration pipeline ensures rapid updates while maintaining system reliability – critical for industrial training environments where downtime isn’t an option.
Technical highlights:
- Next.js/React responsive frontend
- FastAPI backend with RESTful interfaces
- Keycloak-powered identity management
- MinIO object storage with intelligent organisation
- Redis session management for device authentication and queue management
- Comprehensive admin tools for monitoring and management
What’s New in the Beta Release?
The beta version of the Experiencing Tools marks a major milestone in the MOTIVATE XR project. Key achievements include:
- Enhanced compatibility: Tools now support a wide range of XR devices, including video see-through headsets like LeonardoXR.
- Improved user experience: Features like spatial persistence and dynamic content filtering make XR sessions smoother and more personalised.
- Real-time data integration: MIRA now connects with XR players to display live telemetry from digital twins.
- Remote collaboration: KAYROX Assistance and Streaming Editor enable experts to support users remotely, with shared views and interactive guidance.
- Gesture-based interaction: LeonardoXR’s gesture recognition system allows users to control XR content without physical input devices.
These developments bring MOTIVATE XR closer to its goal of delivering a fully integrated, user-friendly XR ecosystem. The beta release also serves as a foundation for future enhancements and industrial validation.
What This Means for Industrial Training
Industrial sectors face unique challenges in workforce development: complex equipment, safety-critical procedures, and the high cost of traditional training methods. The MOTIVATE XR platform addresses these challenges head-on:
- Risk-free practice environments for dangerous or expensive procedures;
- Consistent training quality across multiple locations and shifts;
- Easy content updates when procedures or equipment change;
- Close collaboration with group-based project management;
- Future-proof architecture that scales with training needs.
What’s Next
This beta release (v1) establishes our foundational infrastructure and successfully demonstrates integration across all project work packages. We are now gathering feedback from pilot sessions across various industrial sectors to guide the development of V2, scheduled for release in 2026.
The next iteration will focus on:
- Production readiness enhancements based on real-world usage;
- Expanded service integrations;
- High-availability deployment configurations;
- Advanced monitoring capabilities;
- New features directly addressing pilot partner needs.
